Mission of the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification

The over-arching aim of the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification is to:

  • Provide a source to the public-at-large and to relevant stakeholders (consumers, families, practitioners, third party payers, and researchers) that clearly identifies providers and programs that reliably offer Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in a way that conforms to the evidence-based research for the treatment;
  • Assess and recognize programs identifying themselves as providing DBT as having the necessary program components and organization to do so with fidelity to the model as developed by the treatment developer;
  • Recognize and identify providers delivering DBT as having the requisite knowledge and demonstrated skills to deliver the treatment with adherence to the model as developed by the treatment developer;
  • Maintain a roster of those Individual DBT Clinicians who have been certified;
  • Maintain a roster of those DBT Programs that have been certified;
  • Monitor certified therapists and programs on a regular basis to ensure maintenance of necessary skill sets and programmatic organization to ensure that certificants and certified programs continue to be able to deliver treatment with fidelity and adherence;
  • Assess and implement additional certifications as needed.
