Effective Compassion

At the heart of our mission is a commitment to ensuring excellence and adherence to the highest standards in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Our goal is to serve the public and relevant stakeholders by offering a trusted resource for identifying providers and programs that deliver DBT in alignment with the evidence-based research established by Dr. Linehan and her colleagues.

Our certification process rigorously assesses clinicians to ensure they possess the knowledge and skills essential for delivering DBT with adherence to the model as it has been researched. Similarly, we evaluate DBT programs to verify they have the necessary components and organizational structure to implement DBT with fidelity.

What is Dialectical Behavior Therapy?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive multi-diagnostic, modularized behavioral intervention designed to treat individuals with severe mental disorders and out-of-control cognitive, emotional and behavioral patterns.

It has been commonly viewed as a treatment for individuals meeting criteria for Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) with chronic and high-risk suicidality, substance dependence or other disorders. However, over the years, data has emerged demonstrating that DBT is also effective for a wide range of other disorders and problems, most of which are associated with difficulties regulating emotions and associated cognitive and behavioral patterns.

Why get Certified?

Certification has important advantages for individual therapists, for DBT programs, and for the collective effort that we all have contributed to the overall field of DBT treatment development and delivery.

DBT-LBC™ Certification provides the consumer and their loved ones with confidence that the clinician/program has been independently evaluated and has demonstrated efficiency in delivering the treatment as researched.

DBT-LBC™ Certification is an indication, for those who are researching their treatment options, that they will find in you a professional who meets high national standards.
