As DBT therapists, we seek to understand the impact of an invalidating environment on our clients and ourselves. For LGBTQ+ people, invalidation can take many forms including traumatic invalidation and sociopolitical marginalization. This webinar will explore potential sources of LGBTQ+ invalidation that may show up in our work. DBT’s validation strategies, including functional validation, are powerful tools helping us deeply acknowledge the presence and consequences of invalidation. In this webinar, we will explore ways to effectively use LGBTQ+ validation to address these consequences as we work toward the critical goal of authentic self-validation in the pursuit of a life worth living.
Learning Objectives | By the conclusion of this event, participants will be able to: Need 3
- Participants will identify potential sources of LGBTQ+ invalidation
